Panasonic pushes high-end mirrorless boundaries with LUMIX S1II and S1IIE in India
Panasonic has dropped two heavyweight contenders into India’s mirrorless camera market with the launch of the LUMIX S1II and S1IIE, aiming squarely at professional shooters and content creators who want uncompromising photo and video performance. The release signals a clear push to close the gap between cinema-grade tools and portable hybrid cameras.
LUMIX S1II: Speed and cinematic dynamic range
The LUMIX S1II, built around a new 24.1MP partially stacked full-frame CMOS sensor, delivers blistering 70fps blackout-free burst shooting and up to 15 stops of dynamic range in V-Log. It supports 5.8K 60p, 5.1K 60p, and 4K 120p recording, and can shoot Apple ProRes RAW HQ internally to CFexpress cards—no external recorder required.
Upcoming firmware boosts versatility
A forthcoming firmware update will add multi-frame marker displays for easier multi-platform production, offering more flexibility for content creators working across formats.
LUMIX S1IIE: Pro features at a lower price point
The S1IIE, priced lower but still firmly in pro territory, brings a 24.2MP sensor with 6K open gate recording and a cinematic 2.4:1 aspect ratio option, along with over 14 stops of dynamic range in V-Log. It tops out at 30fps burst shooting with the electronic shutter, and 10fps mechanically, all without blackout.
Shared tech for precision shooting
Both models share Panasonic’s AI-powered Phase Hybrid Autofocus, tuned for eye, face, and fast-motion tracking, plus a new “Urban Sports” mode for complex subjects like skateboarding or parkour. They also feature 8-stop in-body stabilization, cropless electronic IS, dual media slots, and extreme cold resistance down to –10°C.
Integrated workflow support
For professionals working end-to-end, there’s native integration with Capture One, Frame.io, LUMIX Lab, and the upcoming LUMIX Flow, streamlining the shoot-to-edit process.
India’s creator economy in focus
With starting prices at Rs 3,29,990 for the S1II and Rs 2,69,990 for the S1IIE, Panasonic is betting that India’s rapidly growing creator economy will see value in cameras that blur the line between stills and cinema. As Fumiyasu Fujimori, Panasonic India’s managing director, put it, “India is on the cusp of a creative revolution.”
