The Dragonwing Q-6690 has been designed to power a range of devices, from rugged handhelds and retail point-of-sale systems to smart kiosks. It offers OEMs and ODMs a scalable, upgrade-ready platform with software-configurable feature packs that can be updated over the air, extending product lifecycles while reducing certification overhead.

Art Miller, VP & Head of Retail, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., said, “The Dragonwing Q-6690 combines integrated RFID, AI, and next-gen wireless capabilities in a single, scalable platform, designed to accelerate innovation across industries including retail, logistics, and manufacturing. We are particularly excited about working with retailers today that need platforms that are not only powerful and connected, but also adaptable to evolving customer expectations, from smarter kiosks and handhelds to real-time inventory analytics and contactless experiences.”

Fully integrated RFID for enterprise efficiency

The Dragonwing Q-6690 eliminates the need for external RFID reader modules, enabling smaller and more efficient device designs. This integration supports security-focused, contactless use cases such as access control, asset tracking, inventory management, and product authentication. These capabilities are expected to benefit industries such as retail, logistics, and manufacturing by streamlining operations and creating new digital experiences.

With its modular design, the processor allows OEMs to configure devices based on computing, multimedia, or peripheral needs, while retaining the flexibility to add features via over-the-air updates. This approach accelerates time-to-market for new devices, extends product relevance, and supports evolving customer demands.

Ecosystem support

Hervé D’Halluin, Leader RFID & Traceability, Decathlon, said, “Since 2004, we’ve leveraged RFID across our value chain. By 2019, we had already achieved 100% RAIN RFID tagging of our products. Now, the Dragonwing Q-6690, with its fully integrated RFID and AI capabilities, represents a game changer. It will maximise our operational efficiency, amplify smarter in-store customer experience, and support sustainability goals through enhanced product traceability.”

Aileen Ryan, President & CEO, RAIN Alliance, added, “Qualcomm’s integration of RFID into the Dragonwing Q-6690 empowers retailers and logistics companies to put RAIN-enabled devices into every employee’s hands, unlocking unprecedented productivity improvements and sales potential. From digital product passports and circularity to automated checkout and inventory management, this represents a seismic shift that will democratise the Internet of Things, reshape industries, and create entirely new markets.”
