Wipro unveils aggressively priced laser printers

Innovative laser printers that save money today and tomorrow--was the punch line for the recent launch of Wipro ePeripherals' (WeP) complete range of color and mono laser printers. For the first time in the country, WeP has launched a color laser printer, which is priced less than Rs 1
lakh.

The printers are largely designed to meet working requirements for all kinds of working groups--personal, SMEs, smaller workgroups, large workgroups and professionals.

Personal laser printer--WeP 1400 which has a speed of 10 ppm, comes with 4 MB memory and a parallel port and is priced at Rs 16,900. It also has a unique feature of manual duplexing of paper to save the total paper usage. Another personal laser is WeP 1500. Priced at Rs 24,900, it serves the requirements of the SOHO segment. It has a 12 ppm speed and memory of 2 MB and 66 MHz processor. It comes with an in-built two port parallel or USB
AutoShare.

Commenting on the launch, SR Prakash, GM (Marketing), WeP, said, "We want to expand the present market for printers. With an experience of 14 years in printing business and in-house R&D facility, these products are a true value for money to the buyers."

For the SME segment, there are two printers in offering--WeP 1700 and WeP 1900, with a price tag of Rs 29,900 and Rs 49,900 respectively. These printers are designed especially for Indian climatic conditions and varied media used in printing. Very competitively priced, this range has a printer for every segment.

For the workgroups, the company has come out with WeP M2C and Wep M2C-P. These two models are mono lasers and can be upgraded to color laser printing using a low priced color upgradation kit. WeP M2C is meant for SOHO non-professional usage with a price tag of Rs 99,900, and Wep M2C-P is priced at Rs 1.31 lakh for professionals. These two models can give 20 ppm in mono and 5 ppm in color. They are network ready printers with a memory of 64 MB onboard SDRAM, which is upgradable to 384 MB.

For bigger workgroups, the range has two offerings, both in color--WeP Color Laser 5200 P and WeP Color Laser 5200 PN. Both come with a speed of 20 ppm mono print and 5 ppm color prints. As per Prakash, WeP laser printers are Window operating system optimized and thus give better performance in comparison to the other laser printers.

The channel partners have reacted to the new launches very positively. According to Pankaj Bandlish, Director, Compro Computers, "The products are aggressively priced and have good features. I think these products should do well in the market." Added Ankur Bansal, Director, Pulse Systems, "Wipro is a very aggressive company and it has been able to push its products very well so far in the market. I am sure they will be able to break the vacuum in the laser printer market."
