Wipro signs MoU to set up center at Infocity, Oriss

Wipro has inked a MoU with Orissa government to start a software develop-ment
and BPO services center in the state. The company will set up the mega center at
Infocity at Bhubaneswar spread over an area of approximately 30 acres.

The company has promised to develop an integrated center covering software
and IT enabled services with world class amenities supporting infrastructures
such as audito-rium, training facilities, residen-tial hostels, indoor and
outdoor facilities apart from core information and communica-tion technology (ICT)
infrastruc-ture required for various services to be offered by this center.

Work on the first phase of this center, which would comprise at least one
unit with a capacity of 1,000—1,500 people, is expected to start next year and
would be completed within two years, according to an official of the chief
minister office.

The state government will provide necessary infrastruc-tural support and
facilitate all clearances required for imp-lementation of the project th-rough
its single window orga-nization, namely Orissa Com-puter Application Center, bac-ked
by the Department of IT.

AK Tripathy, secretary of the state IT department and Tamal Dasgupta, CIO,
Wipro signed the MoU. During the current year, the growth in software exports
from Orissa is likely to exceed 40 percent and touch Rs 500 crore. "With
the setting up of the Wipro facilities and arrival of few other IT majors, the
Infocity, Bhubaneswar is all set to cross Rs 1,000 crore export mark in IT and
related services within the next three years," said the official.
