In an attempt to bridge the digital divide in India, Wipro
Infotech launched the 'SuperGenius Bharat PC' targeted and designed
specifically for use in rural India. It is based on Intel's innovative PC
platform that has been developed exclusively to meet the needs of rural villages
and communities in India.

The Intel-powered Community PC platform is equipped to
operate in a community setting while accommodating the varying environmental
conditions prevalent in the country.

The Wipro SuperGenius Bharat desktops consist of a rugged
chassis that is engineered to resist extreme dust and heat conditions. It can
continue to operate if AC power is unavailable without loss of any data. The
central power system unit (CPSU) enables the system to operate on both AC and DC
(battery) power.

Commenting at the launch, Amar Babu, MD, Sales and
Marketing, (South Asia), Intel said, “Our experience shows that information
and communications technology (ICT) adoption in developing nations requires much
more than providing a standard PC. The technology often needs to be adapted to
the local usage and environment of a particular country or region. In addition
to defining the platform and developing the ingredient technologies, Intel also
collaborated with local hardware, software and service companies to deliver on
the promise of the Community PC platform.”

Added Anil Jain, VP, Personal Computing Division, Wipro
Infotech, “Rural India deserves a superior, customized yet, affordable PC that
can operate despite environmental and infrastructural bottlenecks. The
SuperGenius Bharat aims to increase and facilitate PC usage in rural India.”
