WeP Peripherals Ltd has crossed the one lakh UPS mark. WeP, which entered the UPS market in April 2001 with its ‘Emerge’ segment, is the fastest Indian company to have achieved this landmark in this market segment.
EVS Sai Babu, GM, WeP said that WeP had begun manufacturing of UPS at its Hyderabad facility last year. The company invested around Rs 2 crore for the manufacture of UPS in this facility. According to the company, the 100,000 UPS mark was achieved through its channel strength. WeP is spread around 17 locations around the country and has a reseller base of 13,000 and a customer base of 7
lakh.
During the last six months, the company has introduced products as Emerge 600 VA for 2PC applications and Emerge 550G, which is the only UPS to protect PC even with a generator. Sai Babu said that there were plans to introduce the online UPS systems to address the high-end server requirements in the next three months.
The company has also been keenly looking at acquisitions for growth. WeP acquired a unit of Godrej in 2001 and Select Technologies–a company in the security and networking area in 2002. “ We are still looking at acquisitions this year,” Babu said.
The company launched 2000 lines per minute printer and 1 KVA UPS recently. It also began a new initiative called ‘Green printer heads’ whereby a separate manufacturing facility has been set up to remanufacture the printer heads in accordance with the ISO 2000 standards. WeP is currently recycling five different models identifying specific markets for these since the customer gets a 25 percent cut and a three-month warranty on the printer heads.
Another initiative is the ‘Print and Save’ effort where the companies buy only the service and not the printer. According to Babu, this was a growing business accounting for Rs 16 crore this year.
