With smooth infrastructure and right applications, Gujarat surely is making
headway. And now with the state giving a thumps up to Narendra Modi-led BJP in
the 2007 state elections, the political stability too, has been
well-established. The state is already taking e-gov to the next level with all
the right moves. Raj Kumar, IT Secretary, Government of Gujarat delves more on
these moves

What are the updates on CSC project being rolled out along with Bharti
Airtel?

Through this project, we aim to connect villages with broadband
connectivity. We had invited bids for implementing the project in September 2007
and Bharti Airtel won the bid for five years. We aim to cater to 6,000 villages
through broadband connectivity. The project has already started and almost 2,000
villages have been connected.

What is 'One-day Governance'?

'One-day Governance' states that an individual would come to a government
office in the morning for his personal work and leave with the work done in the
evening. This actually proves the transparency and timely execution of the
government work. It is to make the job of the citizens easier. Initially, this
project was rolled out at the block level. But now, we are taking it to the
village panchayats as well.

What is the progress on the Mission Mode Projects (MMP) in the state?

State level projects such as commercial tax, land records, connecting police
stations, and integrated financial management system have been implemented. Out
of the 10 MMPs, we have made good progress in six. We have gone ahead with these
projects on the state initiative.

With the computerization of the land records department, we have earned Rs
40 crore as revenue in the last two years and there have been more than eight
million transactions. We have also completed around Rs 10,000 crore of
e-tendering since January 2007.
