Western Digital (WD) organized the WD Premier League on March 11 - a cricket tournament for its distributor and reseller community in Hyderabad. Around 150 resellers, distributors and their staff contested in the knock-out tournament of 3 matches at the RRC Grounds.
Khwaja Saifuddin, senior director, sales, WD South Asia, Middle East and Africa and Sushil Bandi, country manager, Indian sub-continent, WD; were present on the occasion, along with the company's regional managers for components and branded businesses.
Four teams, each named after Caviar Blue, Black, Green and Velociraptor, played in the tournament. Caviar Blue won the tournament, in a closely contested final match against Velociraptor. Sandeep Sethia of Shweta Computers & Peripherals was announced Man of the Match and was also named as Man of the Series.
The teams were announced a month prior to the event, followed by net sessions for 10 days, which resulted in strong teamsmanship among the players. Speaking during the award function, Saifuddin said, "Important business lessons have been learnt today, and throughout the preparation for the matches. The IT channels community is the single biggest stakeholder in our business, and I was delighted to arrive here and witness that community growing stronger."
Bandi, who led the initiative from the front remarked, "Relationships are more important than training. This tournament has lifted our partners' spirits and cemented their loyalty towards brand WD. I need not elaborate how good that is for business. We should do this more often."
