After a long wait, Seema Rizvi, Minister for the State Information Technology and Electronics, handed over cheques pertaining to benefits of Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) to Uptron employees at Vishveshvaraiya Hall of
PWD.
Under the first phase of VRS benefit distribution, 250 employees received cheques amounting to Rs seven crore. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rizvi said that with the distribution of cheques, the long pending demands of Uptron employees were fulfilled.
She thanked Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, chief minister Mayawati, Senior officers of the government and Uptron employees for their guidance and co-operation as a result of which VRS payment had become a reality.
She promised that every effort would be made to accommodate Uptron employees working in other departments. She also said that employees covered under the VRS would get payment in a phase manner. On the occasion, several Uptron employees asked for payment of one month salary in lieu of notice but the Uptron management explained that the salary of one month notice period was paid in those cases where the closure was being made abruptly. But, in this case the decision regarding the closure had been made several months back and employees had been informed in that regard.
