Vapi Information Technology Association (VITA), which was
formed in April last year and has been maintaining a silence period since then,
has now conducted its first annual meeting.
The association also invited its mentor, SITA (Surat
Information Technology Association), to attend the event and motivate the other
members. "SITA is a parent association to us. This time when we attended
SITA Expo 2004, the members motivated us and also explained the benefits of
having an active association. Therefore, in the presence of SITA, we expected
members to also understand the importance of being an active member,"
explained Sanjay Desai, committee member of VITA.
Since its inception, the association has had only 25 members
when the strength of the channel community at Vapi is around 65. "We had
tried forming this association earlier but failed and this was mainly due to the
prejudices dealers had in their minds. But now they have changed, as they are
open to discussions, which is the reason VITA was formed last year. In fact, we
also held a seminar for the members on sales tax. We are also looking forward to
fight out common issues with vendors from this platform," added Desai.
At the annual meeting, the main agenda included to plan VITA’s
first exhibition at the end of the current year, give out founder membership
certificates to the association members and get new members into the committee.
"There was also an open forum at the meeting for members to discuss various
issues which would be taken up later by the association," said Desai.
The association office bearers consists of Sailesh Bhatt,
President; Rashesh Purohit, Secretary; and Manish Kolsawala, Hitesh Gandhi,
Sanjay Desai and Sanjay Bandhari, all committee members.
