education segment is expected to increase the use of video con­fe­rencing as
the prices reduce and the awareness about the technology is spread in the
market.

The distance education

across their institutes, thus bene­fiting in distance learning.

Addressing
a press con­ference MKCL, Frost and Sullivan and Polycom, Inc informed about
the various benefits of conferencing in education field.

Dilip Tikle, VP, Business
Development, MKCL said that by deploying Polycom's solutions it has been able
to successfully deliver lectures to students and invite proficient educators to
address faculty and students spread across Maha­rash­tra. According to him, by
using Polycom's product MKCL has managed to connect eight regions in
Maharashtra and is planning for a further expansion.

Manager, Polycom said that the potential of video conferencing in India is huge
and the educational vertical has contributed substantially to their business.
Further he added that large scale implementation of distance learning has
created huge opportunity for Polycom to reach out to the masses with the
technology.

The video con­ference eq­uip­ment
market was estimated to be at $10.8 mil­lion in 2004 and is likely to grow till
2011. The educational vertical contri­buted to about 11 percent growth in the
endpoint market and four percent to the infrastructure market in 2005.
