Technologies, one of
the innovators of power efficient x86 processor platforms, and
Simmtronics Semiconductors, manufacturer of motherboards and memory
modules have together come up with a full line of innovative green
computing products, including a low-cost SIMM PC and a wide range of
power-efficient VIA pc-1 mainboards integrating VIA's energy-saving
technologies. The new PC has been priced under Rs 10,000 and the
company has already sold close to 15,000 units within the first
couple of months.
Simmtronics is optimistic
about the market potential, and is expected to launch laptops soon.
The company will also distribute the products through its channel
partners initially in 11 countries, including Pakistan, Bangladesh,
Sri Lanka, Dubai, UAE, Turkey, Iraq, Algeria, and Ghana. Richard
Brown, VP-International Marketing, VIA Technologies said, “The
introduction of these products together with Simmtronics marks an
important first step in our long-term plans for developing our
presence in India and providing platforms, that can bring the
benefits of PCs to the next one billion users.”

Simmtronics Semiconductors said that, the global technology market is
witnessing a growing race among manufacturers to introduce the lowest
carbon emission and most environmentally friendly products in order
to enable their customers to become a part of a healthy and green
society tomorrow. "Simmtronics is taking aggressive steps to
accelerate this trend by introducing a full range of VIA-enabled
Green PC systems and mainboards in India," said Sabharwal.
Simmtronics operates
through 18 offices across the country and has 200 channel partners
with a network of more than 3,000 resellers. With this new
innovation, the company is also expected to increase its partner
base. "We are focusing on low-power consumption CPUs, and it is
our first endeavor to increase our presence in India," Sabharwal
said. The company is also offering RMA support, and has close to 20
service centers. "Simmtronics will come up with attractive
schemes for partners, depending upon the potential and market size
and we will organize channel meets, covering 8 to 10 cities a week,"
