After being at the helm of the company for over 25 years, Vanitha Narayanan is now the MD of IBM India.
She takes over from Shanker Annaswamy, who is given the new role of senior adviser to the company on India enterprise.
Narayanan will be responsible for the company's sales, marketing, services and global delivery operations in the India/South Asia (ISA) region. Both Narayanan and Annaswamy will report to Jim Bramante, senior VP, IBM Growth Markets Unit, the firm said in a release.
Narayanan has been a part of the IBM ISA business, and has served as the VP of communications sector, Asia Pacific, and as the global vice president for IBM's telecom solutions offerings.
Before joining IBM in 2004, Annaswamy served as the president and CEO for GE Medical Systems, South Asia and MD of Wipro-GE Medical Systems.
