UrbanClap Arrives in Chennai

UrbanClap, India’s largest mobile services marketplace, has launched their mobile app in Chennai. The company currently offers services in 60 categories in Bengaluru, Mumbai, New-Delhi but it has plans to expand its reach and provide services in more than a hundred categories by the end of the year.

The idea is to help consumers find the best services easily and provide the large base of individuals/small businesses with a platform to manage and grow their client network. From a plumber to a wedding photographer or a yoga teacher, you can find everything on UrbanClap.

Varun Khaitan, Co-founder of UrbanClap, said “We are a marketplace making it easy for consumers to find and hire the right service professionals for their needs. Our vision is to serve the cities of India. So, we thought we should do our bit to serve the residents of Chennai as part of our launch in the city. We are grateful to the authorities for co-operating with us in this endeavour. After our success in the Delhi/NCR, Bengaluru, Mumbai now Chennai is our next city of choice for launch" "We thought we should do our bit..... and we did a drive to promote road safety, where in we distributed helmets to two wheeler riders who were driving without a helmet. The business model of UrbanClap is based on the premise of charging the listed professionals for the business they get through the platform. UrbanClap has already raised Rs10 crore in funding from SAIF Partners, Accel Partners and the founders of Snapdeal, Kunal Bahl and Rohit Bansal. Also UrbanClap has raised USD 10 million in Series A funding from SAIF Partners and Accel Partners.

Currently based out of Delhi-NCR, the company has an extensive growth plan which involves branching out in about 10 more Indian cities. After Bengaluru & Mumbai, it is slated to make its platform live in Chennai. In addition, it will be strengthening its current workforce from the present 50 to about 250 in the next six months.
