Computerization of 6 govt depts

CM Rajnath Singh recently issued directives that all the work
in six government departments in the state, related to public utility, should be
computerized within two months time under the ongoing Smart City Project. While
issuing the orders, CM said that the computerization would not only make working
in departments transparent but would also help to check corruption. The
departments where computerization has been ordered include Nagar Nigam, Lucknow
Development Authority, Jal Sansthan, Director General Registration Office, Trade
Tax Commissioner’s office and Transport Commissioner’s Office. Secretary to
CM Alok Ranjan said that every department for the successful implementation of
computerization would prepare a project report.

"You are the future Bill Gates," he admired him. His photo albums show
it all. Ajay has a fan club too. Thai Prime Minister Chuan Leekpai tops the list
as he will sponsor a Puri-Gates meet soon.

Best center award

STG International Ltd has awarded its Park Road, Hazratganj
center in Lucknow with the Best Center Award. This is the second consecutive
year that the center has bagged the prestigious award for its state-of-the-art
infrastructure, good feedback from the students and excellent placement
opportunities for its students. IS Jabbal, Center Director said that through
this center, the authorities behind would aim to fulfill the much felt need for

E-billing in postal dept

To put an end to the long waiting queues, the Department of
Posts in the state is contemplating to launch an innovative e-billing system for
the state consumers. The launch aims to put an end to the long waiting hours
suffered by the masses for paying bills for electricity and telephone and other
bills.

UPTEC Talent Search Scholarship

UPTEC is currently in the process of short-listing 250
recipients under the fourth UPTEC Talent Search Scholarship (UTSS)-2001 from
major cities of the state. The eligibility criterion includes these students to
be pursuing their class XI or XII and a minimum of 60 percent marks in their
last examinations. Recipients are being selected through a written test that
evaluates the candidate’s scholastic worth in terms of linguistic, numerical,
analytical and logical skills along with general awareness. To be conducted on
September 9, 2001 the test will select 50 students from each city and a reward
of Rs 200 per month shall be presented to each of the awardees for a period of
one year.

Institute for MT training

Global Infotech-an institute offering courses in Medical
Transcription (MT), English speaking and personality development-was recently
inaugurated by Dr Shyam Swaroop, Director, Balrampur Hospital. Speaking on the
occasion Dr Swaroop expressed his gratitude towards the people behind the
institute and hoped that the institute would work towards providing good
platform to the students wanting to seek a career in the MT field. He also
appreciated the personality development and spoken English courses, which he
felt worked as boosters in enhancing the confidence level of students.

A new website developed by two Lucknow-based students, was
recently launched. The website named www.Enawabs.com, targeted at the younger
generation is now up and running and its developers hope that it will be able to
meet the needs of the city’s youth for information on issues which are of
interest to them. Enawabs.com is aimed at providing students and teenagers in
Lucknow with comprehensive information on topics of interest for youth, along
with giving them a common platform for interaction and entertainment. It shall
also keep the surfers aware of the latest events and happenings around the town.
The website hosts a specifically designed sections on education, music, movies,
places to visit, online interaction and electronic trade and is updated on a
weekly basis.

National seminar on IT trends

Future trends and issues related to IT were discussed at a
national seminar on ‘IT-The Road Ahead’ held at the Jaipuria Institute of
Management (JIM). Sanjeev Bhikchandani, CEO, naukri.com said that despite the
showdown in the IT sector, opportunities for growth in Indian IT sector still
provided the companies to shift their focus from on site to off-shore
projects-to build competence in higher value-added work and explore new markets
abroad. Dr P Pushpangadan, Director, NBRI, emphasized that the 21st century will
be that of bio-informatics and biotechnology. Jayant Krishna, Project Manager,
TCS, spoke on advantages of e-governance for India.

Prof V Sridhar, Faculty, IIM, Lucknow stated that the growth
of IT depended on the growth of the telecom sector. Prof Bharat Bhaskar,
Faculty, IIM, Lucknow said that while the IT Act provided the basic legal
framework, it was the ultimate responsibility of the e-commerce and customers to
ensure the security of this kind of business transactions. Dr Upendra Kumar, MD,
UPTEC, highlighted the Internet-related business opportunities in India. Prof SR
Musana, Faculty, JIM, dealt with the legal environment necessary for growth of
IT services.
