After clocking more than 5,000 units of sale in notebooks in the last three
years Delhi-based Unique Infoways has decided to foray into notebook retail
through a chain of retail stores-beginning with two in January 2005. "We
are remodeling and branding the Nehru Place store as 'notebookbazaar.com'
and the second store will come up at Mega Mall in Gurgaon," said Vipul Jain,
Director, Unique Infoways.
The company, in existence since 1997, adopted a focused year
2000 onwards making inroads in segments such as education, manufacturing, ITES,
government and retail. Now, Unique Infoways is restructured in three verticals
— retail, corporate business and IT services — neatly assigned to its 60
employees with each unit operating as a separate independent division.
As the notebook market is expanding the company has decided
to put in more resources in retail. The next two stores of the note-bookbazaar.com
chain will come up in Chandigarh and Jaipur by December 2005, informed Jain.
This will take the number of stores to four.

Currently, the company deals in IBM notebooks. This will be
expanded to include Compaq, Toshiba, Sony and in likelihood Apple as well to
make the stores multi-brand. The USP of these stores will be that it will deal
only in note-books, related accessories and attachment to fulfil all the needs
of a notebook buyer/user at one stop. "Besides, it will also double up as
an expe-rience zone complete with a gaming corner," said Jain.
Optimistic about a great response Jain expects to do 1,000
units every month from these two stores to be operational in January 2005. The
company expects Rs 30 crore of its projected Rs 100 crore turnover for FY
2004-05 to come from its retail business.
This apart, Jain informed hat the backend work of its online
store notebookbazaar.com is also on and the store would soon go online as well.
