So far, images and links are counted in 140 characters limit of Twitter, making it difficult to tweet full messages with images and links in them. Jack Dorsey, the CEO said that Twitter is considering adapting to the evolving ways in which people used Twitter.

Its 140 characters limit was developed in 2006, times older phones were mainly used to send text messages. However, the evolution of smart phones has changed the scenario and Twitter has to evolve with the changing nature of use of text messages. It is being thought as essential to keep in pace with the competition.

It is well known that many people use Facebook against Twitter to send messages with images and links because Facebook allows much greater freedom in composition of long messages with images and links. Many times Twitter's micro-space seems inadequate to fulfil the need of the message being sent. contrary to the popular perception, Facebook is a much more popular site for sending messages and for marketing than Twitter. People who use Twitter often link their messages to longer posts on Facebook. This means that Twitter falls inadequate in serving its purpose in the fast evolving world of digital messaging.

Because of this, it is essential for Twitter to change with the changing times.
