TVSE enters thermal printing segment

TVS Electronics, a leading computer peripheral manufacturer in the country,
has entered the thermal printing category with the launch of TVS Smart. It is
positioned as a premium, high performance compact thermal printer, suitable for
billing, receipt, label, tickets and barcode printing applications.

The company targets wide segment of business such as retail, transportation
and logistics. By adding thermal printers to its portfolio, TVS-E will now offer
a complete range of transaction printing solutions to its customers.

TVS-E Smart is priced at Rs 13,500 and comes with a one-year on site
warranty.

According to S Narendran, GM (Marketing), TVS-E, "The thermal printer
market is evolving and growing rapidly on account of the inten-sification of
automation in the retail segment. At present, there are no vendors to actively
push the product in the market so we felt that this would be the right time to
enter the market. The thermal printer market is likely to increase three folds
in size by the end of next year."

Thermal printers offer a di-rect advantage over their counterparts in terms
of high speed, low noise, compactness and low maintenance. In addi-tion, thermal
printing techno-logy does not require additi-onal consumables such as toner or
ink ribbon that add cost and more importantly additional service or maintenance
calls.

Some of the key features of TVS Smart are fast and high printing quality with
203 dpi, print paper width of 80 mm/ 3.14-inch (40 col to 71 col), prin-ting
speed of two inches per second or 50 mm per second, Windows 3.1/95/98/NT
compa-tible, flash memory for upgra-des, easy paper loading techno-logy, accepts
multiple media types and small footprint.
