In order to improve its after-sales service and increase sales, Transcend is planning to set up an RMA
center in India for the first time. Till date, the company has been shipping its
products to Taiwan to address warranty complaints and the replacement process
has been taking a long time.
“We feel that it is important to have an RMA center in the country so that
warranty issues can be sorted out quicker. We will be setting up one in India
shortly,” said Austin Huang, Sales Regional Head-SAARC and APAC.
However, the company has not yet decided the place for the center as they are
considering different options. The RMA center would be an outsourced division of
Transcend.
On the other hand, Transcend has ventured out in other areas such as digital
photo frames, MP3 players, external hard drives and SSDs (Solid State Devices).
The company showcased its new range of products in the recently concluded annual
computer expo, Computex 2009 in Taiwan.
Huang said that the company plans to focus more on the SSDs, MP3 players,
external hard drives and digital photo frames, as the margins in the memory and
flash drive segment has been shrinking due to the extensive competition from the
other vendors like Kingston, San Disk and few Taiwan-based players. He also
informed that Transcend will keep diversifying its product portfolio by bringing
in more digital products under its banner.
In another major development, Transcend has tied-up with Trend Micro to come
out with an anti-virus USB flash drive. “With this powerful combination of
Transcend hardware and Trend Micro software, users can now store, share and
manage valuable data more safely and securely than ever before. The pen drives
were considered to be major carriers of viruses and now with this combination,
the users can insert the flash drives anywhere and have a secured data
transfer,” Huang claimed.
