Tovihoto launches IT mass literacy program in Nagaland

Parliamentary secretary for IT and C, technical education, science & technology and taxes, Tovihoto Ayemi launched the National Digital Literacy Mission (NDLM) at conference hall, office of the commissioner of taxes on 18th December 2014.

Speaking at the launching program, Tovihoto said that the department of electronics and information technology, government of India has recently approved the scheme for IT mass literacy to train about 10 lakh persons in every eligible household in the country.

He also said that the initial aim of the mission was to train one person from every household in the age group of 14-60 years. Nagaland has also taken the opportunity to train about 6600 beneficiaries in the first phase of IT mass literacy program.

Tovihoto informed that the government of India has authorized the CSC-SPVe-Governance services India, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to carry out the IT mass literacy program in the state in coordination with the department of IT &C.

Further, he pointed out that the department has trained village level entrepreneurs in three districts, Kohima, Dimapur and Peren to train beneficiaries. He said later on the training would be extended to other districts also.

The training would help the beneficiaries to effectively access the various e-governance services being offered by the government.

According to parliamentary secretary for IT & C, the department had conducted surveys in various villages in Kohima, Dimapur and Peren districts and was ready for launching the IT-Mass literacy programme in the state.

While launching IT mass literacy program, Tovihoto encouraged the beneficiaries to learn the computer seriously so to get included as a literate person in the 21st century.

Tovihoto maintained that department has been taking various other initiatives to speed up e-governance activities in the state to help general citizens to avail various IT services and make Nagaland top performing state in the country in IT sector.
