Toshiba is trying out the hybrid distribution model for its handhelds in the
country. While the company already has two national distributors, HCL
Infosystems and Tech Pac, on board, it is now in the pro-cess of appointing
Regional Distributors (RDs) for its handhelds.
According to the company, it will appoint eight RDs across major cities.
Digitronix has already been appointed as a RD in Delhi and Cyberciti is being
considered for Mumbai. "Within a month’s time, we will have RDs in place
in the major eight cities across the country," informed Jyo-tin Verma,
Country Head (Sales and Marketing), HCL Infosystems.
Explaining the rationale behind having a hybrid distribution model in place,
Verma said that RDs could be of great help in tapping customers who do not get
addressed by national distis. "By having RDs, we can ensure wider reach and
customer penetration for our handheld devices," he added. Verma also
indicated at creating a strong visibility for handhelds in retail stores.
Currently, Toshiba is selling about 200 handhelds a month in the country and
Verma believes that by the end of current fiscal, sales could witness a 50-60
percent growth.
