TITA had requested the Election Commission to provide alternative voting facility for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) on April 16th 2014 to facilitate voting their rights. TITA also stated the 4 alternatives like Network voting, Telephone IVR voting, Postal vote, and Proxy voting to the EC in the request letter. TITA members ‘welcome this decision’ which the government has taken on the basis recommendations made by the election commission.

TITA founder and president, Sundeep Kumar Makthala said, “The decision of the Supreme Court will increase the accessibility to around 30% of the technical graduates who are working in different countries and now can exercise their vote in upcoming electoral system. This also helps the information technology professionals who travel to different countries on short term and long term assignments regularly. It would be practically impossible for seven mn Indians abroad to travel India on the polling day. We hope it will be implemented soon and it will provide an opportunity for all those who wish to vote and to participate in the electoral process.”

“This is a great opportunity for all Indians living abroad to vote for the right candidate and participate in the growth of the country for best future ahead. Association would like to congratulate and thank everyone who contributed this initiation and recognized the importance of votes of Indian expats,” Manoj Thatikonda, TITA NRI wing member from USA.
