Formed in the year 1997, the Udupi district is in the state of Karnataka. With the Uttara Kannada district in North and the Dakshina Kannada district on its South, Udupi is famous for its Udupi cuisine. The city is also home to some of the oldest educational centers, like the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) and the Nitte Education Trust, located at Nitte. As a result, Udupi sees a large inflow of foreign and NRI students. No wonder the education sector is the prime business vertical in Udupi and contributes the most. The two national highways NH-13 and NH-17 connects the city with its neighboring markets like Mangalooru, Kochi, Madgaon, Shimoga, Bijapura and Solapur amongst others. The district also has a network of well-connected roads, which connects the main areas of the city with the upcountry areas.
The IT industry in Udupi has maintained a steady growth over the last few years. Sales have remained constant in the city throughout the year, but owing to the festivities, the dealers have been witnessing an upward trend in sales for the last two months. HP, Epson, APC, Samsung, LG, Compaq, Lenovo, TVS-e, WeP, Intel, AMD and Apple are the major selling brands in the city and laptops, peripherals, desktops and servers are the top selling products. Sharing the current market trend, Raviraj, CEO, Softpro Business Solutions said, “The market trend in Udupi has been the same throughout, with the education sector contributing the most, but off-late, the retail segment is also showing positive signs and is catching up very fast.” Looking at this positive trend, Raviraj optimistically opined, that the market looks green in the coming days and a good growth of nearly 20 to 30 percent can be predicted for the market this year.
