What's new in the Autodesk stable for its platform and emerging business
solutions?
Modern day design trends are shifting because of external conditions like
global warming, carbon footprint, etc. These factors have led to change the way
buildings and construction designs are conceptualized. And we have identified
that we need to device a set of products, which could help architects design
accordingly. Till now we had products like AutoCAD, which focused on automation
of the design and engineering. But now we are trying to realign our products
keeping in mind the current trends, ie, sustainability along with the look and
feel of products. We are releasing newer versions of our products with new
features, like the AutoCAD 2008 or AutoCAD LT, which is the low-priced version
so that more and more user can afford them.
Secondly, we have started to look at and identify newer and emerging
verticals that need design solutions like utilities, electrification grids,
process and power plants, oil and gas, etc-spaces where we have not sold our
design solutions so far. The idea is to democratize design.

Could you tell us a bit about Autodesk's emerging business division?
Talking about processes and plants, there is so much happening around. There
are the large oil refineries, food and beverage manufacturing plants,
pharmaceutical plants, interior designers, plastic furniture manufacturers, etc;
all of these factories need to do a lot of design work wherein our products
befits perfectly. So our current strategy tends to verticalize AutoCAD and
customize some of its functionalities to suit the needs of these emerging
verticals. A fine example to this would be the AutoCAD Map.
What is your take on the Indian market?
We see no reason of slowdown of India's economic growth, and hence, are
quite focused to invest or tailor our products to suit the Indian market. We
have also increased our presence in order to have better control on our channel
partners and customers. India has surpassed its image of being a follower and
marching toward overall economic growth through various industrial growths like
infrastructure building and construction, engineering, process and plants,
manufacturing, television and broadcasting, animation, urban or city planning,
GIS, etc. And we are ready to provide more attention to this market and are
pretty exited about the huge potential the market has for us.
