Texonic bets on mobile solutions for growth

Will go global next year

Chennai-based Texonic Instruments is betting big on mobile
solutions for its next stage of growth and corporate image. The company, which
was predominantly into electronics and IT networking business, has set its eyes
on mobile software solutions to grow faster.

Working for the last three years, presently the company offers
over 5,000 ringtones, 20,000 logos, mobile advertising and marketing services,
and brand promotions. "This industry is growing into a multi-crore market
where we are trying our skills. In fact, there are not many players in this
league and Texonic is competing with biggies like Rediff and Times Group in the
country. Now we are planning to go global with these solutions and services in
2004," asserted Naveen Bhandari, chieftain of the mobile solutions team and
Director, Texonic.

Texonic, which has opened its Tech Zone in Chennai and
Coimbatore–a shop for innovative gadgets and cell accessories–has managed to
generate a database of over 37 lakh mobile users in the country through its
Funcards (a scratch card offering a set of ringtones and logos). "This
database helps us to pitch in with major companies who are looking at brand
promotion and product and service marketing among the mobile users. We have done
campaigns for Ford, LifeStyle, Universal, Studio Cell, TVS etc. Also, we have
done trailer promos for movies such as Ottran (a new Tamil film) and Matrix
Revolution," claimed Bhandari.

Texonic is presently offering services only for GSM players and
in the next stage, it plans to support CDMA service providers also.Using the
software, Texonic is providing price quotes for its IT products too which is
completely automated. "We have programmed our server and any reseller can
get latest price with stock availability by just sending a SMS to us. Based on
the user mobile number, the server will automatically identify whether he is a
stockist/dealer/reseller and give the respective price and stock status,"
he explained.

Being a registered and approved member of Indian Polyphonic
Ringtone Society (IPRS), Texonic is providing service to AirTel and Aircel.
"Soon, we are tying up with one more major mobile service provider in the
country to offer our bouquet of services," he said.

After strengthening its business in the country, Texonic plans
to enter into overseas market offering similar kind of services. "We want
to provide content for foreign players too and we are confident of competing
well in the global market with our quality and innovative solutions and
services," quipped Bhandari.

Texonic Instruments has invested over Rs 1 crore in this
business and has an exclusive software team working for it. The company is also
into manufacturing and providing data cables for mobile phones, besides
importing innovative accessories. "We are planning to open Tech Zones in
Banga-lore, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi, during next year," he said.

In another major develop-ment this week, the company bagged the
SonyEricsson exclusive distributorship for the Tamilnadu region.
