The ongoing tension in Siliguri over the proposed blockade on Kolkata based companies seems to have eased temporarily as most of the members of North Bengal IT Traders Organization (NITO) are out of the country resulting in a provisional suspension of the plans of the association.
NITO had previously decided to oust Kolkata based firms off Siliguri stating that the "action can happen any day". After the decision was approved of during a meeting held earlier this month, the association has been scanning the market and had gone into a mode of consultation before taking any drastic measures. The situation thereafter further eased with most of the office bearers and prominent members of NITO going out of India on a vacation trip.
"Most of our members are out of India now and so, we have momentarily withheld our decision regarding the companies based out of Kolkata. However, they (members) will be returning next week and we'll thereafter hold a meeting to take the next step of action", said Sankar Dhar, secretary, NITO.
Recently, besides taking the crucial decision related to trading (Kolkata based firms issue), the association had also successfully persuaded a Delhi based company in their locality after receiving complaints about price undercutting and flouting business ethics.
"We had successfully arbitrated between the plaintiffs and the Delhi-based firm (name withheld) related to price issues. Furthermore, the same company did not have a VAT licence and was allegedly resorting to unethical price wars which was disturbing the market. The issue is now over", Dhar added.
