TCS buys space in Siruseri IT Park

Tata Consultancy Service (TCS) has acquired 70 acres of land for Rs 13 crore at Siruseri IT Park near Chennai. Besides this, the company also has plans to increase its manpower from its existing strength of 5,000 employees to 7,500 in the next two years. Currently, Chennai accounts for 23 percent of manpower of the total workforce at
TCS.

This is the largest project in Siruseri Park, which is being developed by the state-owned State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT). The major units located in this complex are that of Xansa Ltd and Polaris Ltd.

According to S Mahalingam, Chief Financial Officer, TCS this initiative is part of the company's strategy to consolidate and expand its operations in Chennai. TCS would invest around Rs 200 crore over a period of time on the new center at
Siruseri.

The center would accommodate 5,000 people in the first phase of its completion. "The man power strength would scale even beyond our estimate of 10,000 based on how segments such as the call center, BPO and engineering services would grow, which have currently great potential in the IT enabled services," Mahalingam added.

TCS has three facilities in Chennai - the 1.6-lakh sq. ft facility at Sholinganallur, the 90,000 sq ft facility at Tidel Park and the 80,000 sq feet facility at Ambattur. Presently, the facility in Sholinganallur is the largest though the centers coming up in NOIDA and Hyderabad is believed to beat this facility.
