Tata Teleservices Ltd (TTSL) has announced the launch of its Voice Mail Service (VMS). The service would enable TTSL customers across all its six circles (Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh & Maharashtra) to access voice messages left by a caller, in case a customer is not able to take his calls.

The VMS has an inbuilt 'Message Alert' architecture. The Message Alert feature in case of a Tata Indicom CDMA mobile or a fixed wireless phone, functions by sending an alert SMS or by making a system call to subscriber informing him about the new message. The sent alert informs the VMS user on three accounts i.e. type of message received, time of receipt and even the sender (if CLIP is activated). However, in case of a Tata Indicom landline subscriber, the alert is via a Message Waiting Indication or a system dial out.

The VMS mailbox has a full load capacity of 10 minutes and the maximum length of a single message, which can be left by a caller, has been rationalized to 60 seconds. To further prevent over load of a subscribers voice mailbox, the VMS facility has been provided with a 'Auto Delete' facility. This means that a message once listened to by a user would get automatically deleted unless the subscriber does not explicitly saves the same. The service has been priced at a rental of Rs 25 month.
