With the launch of this facility KIIT has become the first VoIP institute in
the state of Orissa and probably the first in the country also. According to the
press release, each student at the KIIT campus is provided with a high-end
laptop with in-built wireless LAN capability for their computing needs. All
students will have wireless access to voice, video and data from anywhere inside
the five campuses or outside through broadband connectivity. Tata Telecom has
deployed IP hard and soft phones ensuring mobility between the institute’s
campuses. All the five campuses are connected to each other with Avaya Wireless
Access Point and outdoor wireless access.

The campus has connected 1,000 computers to 20 servers. Tata Telecom has
deployed a voice server, based on IP technology enabling users to make a
telephone call to anywhere in the world from a PC or wireless laptop through the
campus network. Besides this, a remote user can access the network through
broadband Internet. All the campuses and hostels of KIIT have their own
independent networks and these independent networks are linked by means of
wireless bridges as well as optic fiber cables. This network has been secured by
the Avaya VPN security Gateway providing VPN and firewall capabilities.
