With the looks of a notebook, Chaintech Computer Co Ltd, a Taipei based
motherboard manufacturer, has launched its desktop PC. The company has tied up
with Delhi based Jaipuria Group for distributing its product in the country.

The product christened — IMO Desk (Internet multimedia and Office) comes
with the Red Hat Linux OS, CPU, RAM, hard drive, LAN card and modem of a normal
desktop and can be displayed on a normal CRT monitor and thin type of LCD
monitors.

"This is one of the smallest desktop PCs and is ideally suited for
portability. As the name suggests, we are targeting the home, education and the
service industry for Internet, multimedia and office features of this product.
Additional features like 5.1 DVD channel output gives one an option of using IMO
Desk as a home theatre using TV as an output," informed Chandrakant Singh,
Country Head, Jaipuria Advance Technologies.

As the company plans to market the product throughout India, it is going to
embark on channels heavily. "We already have 15 dealers working for us to
sell this product in the Delhi and the NCR region. Next month, we will be going
towards Mumbai and after that to cities like Bangalore and Hyderabad. Ideally we
would like to have at least four channel partners in each state by the end of
this year," he added.

The product weighing 3.5 kgs has a price range of Rs 30,000 to Rs 35,800
depending on the OS and monitor and the company is looking forward to selling
about 1,000 units per month.

"Segments like education, ITES, home and the service sector are going to
drive the need for this type of product and with its small size it is ideal for
those who are always on the go. We have already installed this product at RK
Puram based DPS in Delhi and are talking to some other institutions as
well," Singh explained.
