In its
effort to diversify the company's reach and work area, Syntech Group of
Companies is all set to launch a new FM radio channel in Siliguri. In a proposal
floated out by the Government, Syntech managed to consoÂlidate its position as
the lowest bidder along with three other companies. However, the company is yet
to receive its wireless operaÂtional license and there are a few more
formalities with Prasar Bharati, which are required to be completed first. 'We
will get a common infrastructure in the locality along with the other upcoÂming
channels. The whole procedure is expected to take about eighteen months',
informed A K Basu, Advisor, FM Channel.
Syntech is quite in an upbeat
mood with their new venture. The yet to be named radio station is certainly the
first endeavour for Syntech in the world of media industry. The company is
planning to set up a studio facility in the city sooner so that broadcasting can
be started much earlier than what is expected through the common infrastructure.
'We want to go in air as early as possible so that we can capture the market
first', said Basu who is expecting to go on air by early 2007.
For Syntech it was high time
they had a well-proceÂssed and profit-making diverÂsion as Milon Chakraborty,
MD, Syntech Group of Companies pointed out. “We are in the IT industry for the
last ten years. Earning good profit is quite difficult in any hardware business.
It is good for turnover. Since some time we were trying to get into some other
business options and finally settled to diversify into media. Radio being a
totally end user centric media it will fit into our business pattern where we
will be able to reach the customers directly. This will also give us the
opportunity to utilize it as a promotional tool for our own Isyn brand of PCs.
Siliguri and its adjacent area are untouched areas and at the same time growing
market.”
