After the recent tie up with Veritas earlier in June, Symantec organized
its Vision Mumbai 2005 on Oct 25 at Renaissance Hotel, Mumbai. Earlier, before
the merger Veritas organized this event every year and after the merger this is
the first big event of the two companies together, where nearly 2000
participants were present.
Other than presenting the visionary awards to the Symantec customers in
various fields, the event released the IDC survey of the security threats in the
mid-sized enter-prise sector. Besides this, the company also introduced its two
new products-Backup Exec 10d for Windows Server and new additions to its
LifeStave family of Windows server and desktop infrastruc-ture management
solutions.
Five of the Symantec customers were awarded the Visionary awards for their
excellent performance in various categories. The award winners included HDFC
bank for Data Protection, Punjab National Bank for Information Security, Tata
Consultancy Services for High Availability, ICICI Bank for Server and Storage
Utilization and Bharti Tele-Ventures for Data Replication.
Parijat Chakraborty, Senior Manager, User and Communi-cation Research, IDC
(India) Ltd, said, "There are issues of costs while implementing a security
solution, but the mid-sized corporate need to understand that if there is any
virus attack then the hassles in terms of costs and manage-ment can be far
more." The survey also revealed that the mid-sized companies at Delhi have
a comparatively better awareness about the security issues with 93 percent of
the companies having a definite security policy.
