Surveillance drives from Seagate

Seeing the intensity of catastrophic events engineered by
unscrupulous human beings every then and now, surveillance has become the
compulsive need of the times,” quipped Rajesh Khurana, Country Manager-India
and SAARC, Seagate, while sharing details about Seagate's upcoming product
range, Surveillance standalone hard disk drives.

The new product range from the house of Seagate will hit
the shelves this April for which the vendor is currently looking for distributor
and reseller partners.  These new
video surveillance specific drives christened SV-35 would come in capacities
ranging from 160Gb, 250Gb to 500Gb in both SATA and PATA storage interfaces.

Divulging more details on the product line and prospective
market opportunities in surveillance arena Khurana said, “Surveillance has
made immense stride in the past few years only, private enterprises and
government sector departments have now started realizing the importance of 24X7
security of their premises. The market opportunity is immense and still remains
untapped by any leading player. Hence, this necessity based demand generation
for these types of equipments have motivated Seagate to develop surveillance
drives. The SV-35 drives will find wide spread acceptance in the mar-ket
especially in the banking and retail sector, where all time security is
indispensable.”

Khurana further added, “The offenders of the bomb blast
in Varanasi that took place recently could have been put behind the bars the
very next day, or rather the incident could have been averted, had the place
been under supervision camera. Seeing these instances surveillance has become
one of the intrinsic requirements for countries like India, which remains at the
gun point of insurgent elements at all times.”

To effectively position the new product category in the
market Seagate intends to rope in fresh channel folks. The vendor is currently
in the middle of scrutinizing channels who are servicing the surveillance sector
and are aiming to get on Seagate's channel board. Khurana informed, “We are
open to partner with channels who have some experience of surveillance market,
additionally we could engage our existing set of partner to push surveillance
drives in the market.”
