STPC records 20.92 percent growth

For the financial year 2002-03, Software Technology Park of India - Chennai (STPC) recorded a growth of 20.92 percent in its export, which stood at Rs 5801.42 crore. The export certified by STP Chennai for the last financial was Rs 5017

crore.

According to R Rajalakshmi, Director - STPC where the Indian Software and Services export made a revenue of $ 9.5 billion, the contribution from Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry together was $ 1.32 billion dollars. The contribution from Pondicherry stood alone at Rs 15 crore. The total contribution from ITES was Rs 523.22 crore (8.26 percent) and from the BPO segment it has been Rs 317.06 crore (5.03 percent). 

"For the coming year our future agenda is to encourage R&D setup in IT related areas at Chennai and Tamil

Nadu.

Simultaneously we would promote Comibatore and Pondicherry and to encourage SME support - consortium," added Rajalakshmi. 

Tata Consultancy Services, HCL Technologies Ltd, Infosys Technologies Ltd are the ones who topped the list among the top 10 software export performers from Tamil Nadu. The rest to follow are - Cognizant Technology Solutions India Ltd, Wipro Ltd, Pentasoft Technologies Ltd, Orbitech Ltd, SSI Technologies Ltd, Polaris Software Lab and Satyam Computer Services. 


During the year 2002-03, 75 companies have been approved under the STP scheme.
