With the focus rising over security and surveillance products, spy cams seems to have saved North Bengal IT Traders Organization from a theft of at least Rs 2 lakh.
On the second day of the NITO IT Fair, an alleged thief attempted to steal laptops, peripherals and other accessories from a number of stalls, unknown of the fact that he was under constant vigil.
"The theft was attempted during the night hours after the fair had shut down for the public. Although, no one noticed anything when the theft took place, we soon realised that something is out of place," said Sankar Dhar, member, expo committee, NITO.
Immediately, NITO members carefully went through the recording over the various cameras that were put up at the expo and soon realised about the theft.
"It was one of the electricians whom we saw over the monitor. We soon contacted the electrical contractor and caught the thief. Also, we recovered all the stolen items in good condition and nothing untoward happened," Dhar added.
NITO did not resort to lodge a police complaint on moral grounds against the thief and let him go.
"He (the thief) is poor and complaining to the police would land up him behind the bars. We don't want to harm anybody or ruin one's career on account of this. We recovered the stolen items and are happy with it," he concluded.
Further, NITO did not opt to name the thief on moral grounds.
