Spanco Telesystems and Solutions has received a contract to rollout statewide
area network (SWAN) in Maharashtra.
This contract will be executed with ITI Ltd lead consortium. ITI-Spanco will
jointly implementing the project and maintain it for five years on build, own,
operate and transfer (BOOT) model.
SWAN projects are planed under national e-governance action plan (NEGAP) of
Ministry of Communication and InforÂmation Technology, GovernÂment of India.
This network will provide statewide communication backbone connecting state
headquarter (mantralaya) to district collector offices and district offices to
taluka (tehasil) offices.
GovernÂment of Maharashtra, Department of Information Technology under SETU
along with Ministry of CommuniÂcation and Information TechnoÂlogy, New Delhi, is
jointly funding the project.
Total numbers of offices to be connected under this backbone network are 366
and all the departments under GovernÂment of MahaÂrashtra will make use of the
network.
The estimated number of departmental offices called as 'horizontal offices'
would be more than 2,000.
The said network will provide facility to run voice, data and video-based
media applications and different departmental applications would run on this.
The total value of the project would be approximately Rs 100 crore.
