Sony unveils VAIO series of mobile entertainment

Sony India unveiled its new range of the next generation VAIO note­books which claims to hold the dis­tinction of being the world's slimmest, equip­ped with the thinnest LCD and designed with unique built in camera.

Speaking at the launching ceremony Kunimasa Suzuki, Deputy Senior GM, VAIO Business Division Sony Cor­poration, Tokyo, said that the VAIO notebook is a per­fect blend of stylish, light­weight design and powerful audio, video and information technology capabilities to enable a com­plete multi-media experience.

"VAIO has offered inno­vative products of unique design with the latest AV-IT capability and technology focusing on every single detail from design to techno­logy," Suzuki said. The new technology VAIO or the Video and Audio Integrated Operation, would provide the user with an opportunity to watch movies, store music, pictures and share them with friends.

Mohit Parasher, GM Sales and Marketing, Sony India said that in the last 18 months the sales results were en­cou­ra­ging. They have sold 105,000 digital video cam­eras, 45,000 digital still cam­eras, 65,000 digital personal audios and 140,000 me­mory sticks. "We have sold around 4,000 note­books last year and are expec­ting more sales this year. The de­ma­nds for our pro­ducts are increa­sing and are expecting higher sales in the coming years," said Parasher.

Sony is planning to open up 100 outlets in 35 towns around the country by March 2006 to target more custo­mers. The company's sales and distribution network comprises of over 4500 dea­lers and distributors, 170 Sony World and Sony exclu­sive outlets and 17 direct branch locations catering to markets across the country.

The new range of note­books unveiled today inclu­des five models, which range from Rs 69,990 to Rs 1, 22,900.
