Enthused by the response to its first outlet in Pune, Sony India unvei-led its second state of the art Sony World showroom in Pune. The company plans to intro-duce its new product range of Plasma TV, LCD TV and bio-lap-top computers sometime after Diwali, Sony MD K Sakamoto told the press at an informal chat during the opening of the showroom.

According to Sakamoto, the focus would be on creating demand and new market for high-end, high quality products and offer a better support sys-tem in terms of both, pre and post-after sales services. The focus would be on quality sales and not on volumes, he emphasized.

The company is beefing up its backend to offer support 365 days 24x7 to support the entry of Sony computers. “A new call center is also coming up in Delhi, which would be sta-ring on October 1, for offering customer service,” Sakamoto informed.

Sony India plans to open outlets in cities with more than 5 million population. It has invested Rs 20 lakh in product display and interiors.

Sakamoto said that the first outlet in Pune had done well and accounted for the second largest business volumes after the Delhi GK-I outlet. Apart from this, Sony is using the direct communication channel with customers through a tie-up with Jet Airways and Citi-bank credit card holders.

For customers looking to tap the global product offerings, the company has offered the Sony Select System, which enables customers to order the latest products from the Singapore hub. Sakamoto said that customers have been ordering the latest

handycams and digital still cameras through this channel.
