Sony Ericsson unveils 3G and Walkman phones

Sony Ericsson has launched six new models targeted at various seg-ments for
the Indian market. The new W800 Walkman phones, to be made available late in the
second quarter this year, would have a large memory and would be compatible with
Apple's AAC format as well as MP3 files. The W800i Walkman mobile will come
with CD ripping software to transfer music to the phone.

Other phones launched by the company include the 3G range of Z800i and K600i,
camera phone range of K750i and targeted towards the youth community-the K300i
and J300i. The company is likely to price Z800I for less than Rs 35,000, K600I
for less than Rs 25,000, K750I for less than Rs 22,000, K300I for Rs 8,000 and
J300I for Rs 7,000. The company is putting a price tag of Rs 28,000 on W800i-its
mobile with a walkman.

"We have launched these mobile phones in order to deliver the global
quality to our customers in this region. While 3G is yet to take off in the
Indian region, there has been a lot of speculation from the telecom operators,
so we want to be there when 3G services are launched," informed Sudhin
Mathur, GM, Sony Ericsson India.

According to him, the company expects 24 million handsets to be sold in the $
three billion Indian handset market during the year 2005. "Indian mobile
market is full of vibrancy with more than two million subscribers being added on
a monthly basis. About 17 million handsets were sold last year, so this year it
should be around 24 million. We would definitely be among the top three mobile
vendors in this market," he added.
