SM Telesys, a company manufacturing pagers has announced its foray into consultancy for call centers. The company will provide hardware and know-how to entrepreneurs who wish to set up call centers, besides helping these entrepreneurs in getting influential business to sustain their centers.
According to Dr N P Sen, Chairman and CEO, SM Telesys, "We are trying to ride on the sudden boom of the call center market in India and are confident that with our joint ventures abroad we will be able to have a substantial market share."
Nasscom has projected that by 2008, call centers will employ 1,000,000 people in India and reach a turnover of $ 1.4 billion. Currently there are about 500 call centers and the number is growing fast with a lot of serious players entering into the field. Venture capital companies are also attaching significance to this activity. Currently the US has over 100,000 call centers employing over three percent of the country's population and by 2003, this industry alone is expected to be worth $ 60 billion.
