Situated in the
central part of the picturesque state of Kerala, Thrissur is known as
the cultural capital of the state. The term Thrissur is the
abbreviated form of the Malayalam word 'Tiru-Shiva-Perur', which
means the town of the 'Sacred Siva'. With its rich history, cultural
heritage and archaeological wealth, Thrissur is home to over 10% of
Kerala's population. The city is famous for its Thrissur Pooram
festival, which is the most colorful and prominent temple festival in
Kerala. The city is also considered to be a major commercial and
business hub of South India. It is said to be the region of Kerala's
business acumen and is home to almost every leading Malayali
entrepreneur.

economy of Thrissur is largely dependent on industries like textile,
timber, coir, fishery, agriculture and tiles. The tourism industry
also plays an important role in Thrissur's economy. However, the main
strength of Thrissur lies in its financial capabilities. While other
sectors contribute to the city's economy, the IT industry is lagging
far behind in the race. The market has been doing a mediocre business
for the past few months. K Balachandran, CEO, Southern Associates
said, “The market has been doing an average business since the past
two months. Corporate business is rising, but showroom business has
gone down by 50%.”
style="font-size: 11pt;" size="2">While
talking about the latest trend in the market, Balachandran said that
the buying pattern has changed amongst consumers, as they now wait
for companies to come up with schemes, so as to get more out of their
hard-earned money. The top selling brands in the city are HP, Dell,
Sony and Toshiba. Talking about the sought-after products in
Thrissur, Saju Thomas of Computer Point said, “Ensemble PCs, Intel
and AMD processors, Samsung monitors, Asus motherboards and Viom
memory products are always in demand.” The IT trajectory seems to
be improving in the city and will surely be one of the front runners
in the times to come.
