Six new digicams from Samsung

Expanding its stable of digital cameras in India, Korean major-Samsung has
launched six new models of digital cameras. With this lau-nch the company has a
total of 13 digital camera models in the country. The new range is
simul-taneously being launched in the international market as well.

"The new Samsung digital cameras are priced between Rs 20,000 to Rs
40,000 and targeted at the home PC users. They are available from entry-level
3.2 mega pixels to higher end 7.4 mega pixels cameras. Samsung's digital
cameras are sourced from the company's production bases located in South
Korea, Japan and China," informed Vivek Prakash, VP, Samsung India

"If we look at the Indian market-the organized digital camera market
here which is pegged at 1.2 lakh units in 2004 is expected to double in 2005.
This launch is a part of our focus to create a digital lifestyle niche for the
Indian consumer. This year plan we are planning to sell 40,000 digital cameras
in the Indian market," he added.

In its bid to increase its market share in the region, Samsung is also
rolling out 600 technology retail counters by March 2005, which will sell
Samsung's technology products including digital cameras.
