SITA meet to fight software piracy menace
In order to fight against the increase
rate of software piracy, South Gujarat Information Technologists Association (SITA)
organized a general meeting recently. Acc-ording to SITA, the gathering was an
initiative to encourage the usage of legal software.
Among the 86 participants present at the meeting, there were
special invitees from Valsad Association of Infotech Companies (VAITCOM) and
Vapi Information Technology Association (VITA). Speaking at the meeting, Jwalant
Shorff, President, SITA, said, “In order to resolve unhealthy and unethical
business practice like piracy, we need to take an holistic approach.” He also
mentioned that SITA is keen on having regular discussions with NASSCOM and BSA
to curb piracy.
According to SITA, one of the main objectives of holding the
meeting was to have suggestions from the channel partners. To satiate this, an
open session was conducted in the meeting.
The concerns, which were expressed by the members in the open
session, included, higher price of the OS of companies like Microsoft, lack of
awareness about the newer products, lack of after sales support, lack of channel
based policy for selling software products and immature dealing of the vendors
to curb piracy. Besides this, the participants also expressed their concerns on
security issues of the software.
While SITA is keen on taking steps to regulate the piracy,
it also depends on how vendors will co-operate with the partners to help later
resolve the persistent problems.
