ShopClues 10-day Diwali Sale a massive success; Tier II and Tier III cities emerge as clear winners

The time for crackers has arrived a bit early this year for ShopClues, India’s first and largest managed marketplace, as the e-commerce major has received overwhelming response across the length and breadth of the country during its 10-day Diwali Sale. Reaffirming its leadership position across various regions, the Diwali Sale has received positive consumer feedback with 50% increase in demands from Tier II and Tier III markets as compared to Tier I. ShopClues also reported a massive five-fold growth in business within the first two days of the Diwali Sale. The overwhelming success of the sale is a clear indicator of the increased demand as well as serviceability from smaller towns across the country.

The e-commerce company has also witnessed a 50% surge in average basket size as compared to its last Diwali Sale and the amount of new registrations have doubled on the website. During the 10-day ShopClues Diwali Sale the average time spent per user on the platform also approximately increased by 25%. Also, the popularity of ShopClues enhanced in even the farther reaches of the country. For instance, the overall visits contribution of North East has doubled this Diwali. The highest growth in brand searches have come from Agartala, Guwahati, and Imphal. With the conclusion of the festive sale, Tier III transactional share figures now stand to be at 48% of the overall figures.

The platform has witnessed a ten-fold increase in the television as well as feature phone segment on the website. The sales figure of 4G smartphones below INR 5,000, 32’ LED TV below INR 10,000, and appliance sales have collectively increased five times on the platform. Computers and camera category recorded a quadruple increase in overall figures, whereas home and footwear category grew by more than three times the initial figure. Additionally, gifting category this festive season witnessed 6 times increased sales activity on ShopClues.

The best-selling product on the website was, however, a surprise. An offering of a “Set of 4 Designer Doormats” in Dhamaka Deals was the popular choice as it sold more than 2,500 units within first few hours. Also, backed by bullish pricing and freebies to further sweeten deals, Canon DSLR cameras were also quite popular on the platform. The best buy for Tier II and Tier III cities were home furnishing and women’s apparel products whereas it also witnessed a substantial increase in the share of the structured electronic portfolio and low price laptops. Rural geographies have been a high-demand area for feature phones and white label TVs.

The platform has doubled the growth in a total number of visits within the first two days of the sale, while the highest ever single-day traffic was registered on 6th of October, 2016. Moreover, mobile app installs and related brand searches has tripled during the festive activity. The e-commerce platform has clocked mobile traffic three times higher and due to which visits, visitors, and page views have been registered at an all-time high on the application. Additionally, more than seventy-five percent of orders on the e-commerce marketplace have been booked from ShopClues’ mobile platform.
