IBM today announced the appointment of Shanker Annaswamy as MD of IBM India.
He takes over from Abraham Thomas who has been na-med VP for IBM's Global
Small and Me-dium Business (GSMB) ASEAN/South Asia, ba-sed out of Singa-pore.
Annaswamy will report to Satish Khatu, GM, IBM ASEAN/ South Asia. The
appointments are effe-ctive mid-July 2004.
Announcing the appoint-ment, Satish Khatu said, "Sha-nker has the broad
industry expertise, local and regional experience and leadership qu-alities that
will further stren-gthen our organizational cap-ability and help us continue on
our growth in India." Anna-swamy will be responsible for the operations of
IBM India, including all product and services divisions as well as the com-pany's
sales and distribu-tion. He joins IBM from GE Medical Systems (GEMS) where he
served as President and CEO for GEMS South Asia and MD, Wipro-GEMS. Shanker
began his career with Philips Medical Systems and has held a number of executive
and management assignments and has over 25 years of indu-stry experience.
