Seagate India plans to strengthen the company's position further in the
hard disk drive market, said Rajesh Khurana, new Country Manager of the company.
Speaking exclusively to CyberMedia News, he said that he would immediately
look at balancing both the PC market and the upcoming consumer segment.
"The consumer market in India is set for a boom with the proliferation of a
multitude of digital devices like MP3 players, digital cameras and video,"
said Khurana.
To prove his point, he draws an analogy to the mobile phone revolution, which
has seen rapid growth over the last five years. "There is a pent-up demand
for personal storage. Since the consumer is demanding these products today, we
have to be attentive and respond to their needs," said Khurana.
Seagate is trying to address this pent-up demand by ramping its presence in
retail. Khurana also said that Seagate was focusing on educating and
demonstrating its personal storage products. Training programs for channels is
another special area of focus. The company recently held a program for its
enterprise partners who were trained on new technologies. "We did this
since most channels feel left behind when we don't tell them about innovations
in storage technology." The company is also increasing the number of
SeaCert training programs in smaller towns and also plans to improve its channel
base in tier two cities. Besides these programs, the company is also helping
R&D companies in India, which work on global projects involving reference
design.
Khurana's role involves the strengthening the company's market base, channels
and evolving methodologies and strategies to address both IT and non-IT segments
in a balanced way in the SAARC geography.
