has launched GoFlex drives, a
new series of FreeAgent external hard drives together with
accessories. The new range includes plug-and-play portable and
desktop drives, with a line of interchangeable cables and desktop
adapters. GoFlex ultra-portable drives work with both PC and Mac, and
come in 320GB, 500GB and 1TB capacities. The products will

be available in the market by the end of this month.
“There is an explosive growth of
video and multimedia sharing and storage is expanding at a phenomenal
rate within the home. The new range will set a benchmark for
professionals, who have varied and high content needs,” said Rajesh
Khurana, Country Manager- India and SAARC, Seagate Technology.
The
new series will be available in 14.5mm and 22mm versions and includes
a USB 2.0 cable. It is priced at Rs 5,200 for 320GB; Rs 6,500 for
500GB; and Rs 13,900 for 1TB. Although, the company has cut short
warranty from five years to three years. "We have set the
warranty as per industry standards and the three years warranty is
widely accepted worldwide," he said. Khurana, however, declined
to share revenue targets for the new storage product line but said
that they are confident and optimistic about the new range of GoFlex
storage offering. "These are third generation free agent
external hard drives that facilitate high speed and better
connectivity," he added. The company's go to market strategy
includes going to existing distribution network and channel partners
for this new range.
GoFlex ultra-portable and desktop
drives come in capacities that ranges from 320GB to 2TB. In addition,
the company has created an ecosystem wherein people can experience
easy backup and enhanced protection of all their data. Seagate has
also announced customized GoFlex upgrade cables that can facilitate
auto backup, which transforms the drive into a continuous full-system
backup. The company has also introduced the GoFlex Net media sharing
device that integrates with social media websites, such as Facebook
and Twitter, and publishes RSS feeds. GoFlex media sharing device can
help users to stream content to other devices on a home network.
