elections. The association will plan its further activities only
after consulting the newly elected members at the executive council
meeting. After winning the election for a second consecutive term, R
Elango said, “I am happy to serve as president for this term too.
Similar to last year, we will plan activities and programs for
members. I would like to thank my fellow members for showing faith
and giving me the opportunity to serve the association again.”

The newly elected board
for 2011-13 includes G Venkatraman as secretary, T Manikanda Srinivas
as treasurer and K Manikandan as VP. The board members serve a term
of 2 years as opposed to one year in many associations.

SITA also hosted a family
get together which saw participation of more than 35 families. The
highlight of the event were the awards presented to the women folk.
The association is also planning a family tour for its members
towards the end of the month. Elango further said, “As an
association, we are always active. No decision will be a single
member decision. We will meet next week and decide our future
activities.”

Meanwhile, the
campaigning
for the forthcoming state assembly elections in Tamil Nadu has slowed
down the business in the city. Sales has taken a hit due to the
promises made by political parties including giving away free
laptops. Students are preferring to wait for a free laptop rather
than purchasing a new one. This development is worrying dealers.
