Rudrapur: Corporate rules the market

Located in the fertile Terai region, Rudrapur is a city in the Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand. It is the 7th most populous city of Uttarakhand. Since the establishment of State Infrastructure and Industrial Development Corporation of Uttaranchal (SIDCUL), the city has enjoyed rapid development, along with literacy growth and employment.

The coming up of industries is attributed largely to the setting up of a large integrated industrial estate under SIDCUL. This has proppeled the town into forefront of industrial activity and has attracted companies like Tata Motors, Brittania Industries, Greenply Industries, Parle Agro, etc.The city has been transformed into a major industrial hub with many automobile and agro based industries. Rudrapur city has witnessed a quality garment manufacturing company by the name of Indiana Clothing. Indiana Clothing has earned a new benchmark by creating products that meets and exceeds clients' expectations.

Talking about the industrial growth in Rudrapur, the information technology sector has also gained momentum in the city. The city boasts of a decent number of approximately 100 dealers managing to sell around 300-400 laptops per month. But the recent scenario of the city is not quite encouraging. According to Vineet Jain, CEO, Arihant Computers the market is dull at the moment. "The market is slow at present, festivals also didn't add to the sales of the products," agreed Mahinder of Choice Computers.

Talking about the growth verticals of the city, Sunpreet Bathla, proprietor, Micro Solutions said that corporate is churning the maximum business out of the Rudrapur market currently. Jain added, "Corporate and retail are the primary growth verticals of the city." While laptops sells the most in the market, brands like Dell and HP are the most-sold products. Mahinder adds, "Sony, HP and Dell are the top selling brands in the city."

The dealers were not quite upbeat about the functioning of the computer association of the city-Association of Computer Traders (ACT). Jain said that the association is not that active and usually remains dormant in the region. Talking about the future market scenario, the dealers were of the view that although the current state is discouraging in the city, the future surely looks bright for the IT market. Jain said, "The future looks good, good times are round the corner." Added Mahinder, "Future looks good. I predict competition in the market in the coming times."
