Ginie - This is what majority of hoardings across the country would be painted with on the birth anniversary of one of the greatest icons of Indian industry, Dhirubhai Ambani. And this is the telecom service that Reliance Infocomm would launch on the same day across the country. Its web stores would not only have boring receptionists and remorseful executives, but fresh coffee service would also be available. It has tied up with coffee chain Qwiky's for having cafeterias across their 577 web stores.

Unlike all the telecom operators, Reliance is committed to rural areas too where CDMA technology is not possible. With indigenously developed corDECT technology, it is likely to reach out to remote areas. CorDECT is a wireless system that is used in conditions where normal telecom services are hard to establish.

But in the urban and semi-urban areas, CDMA technology would rule. Tata Teleservices has already been launched in Gujarat. Both these players are outsourcing CDMA handsets from mainly LG. Priced between Rs 3,000 to Rs 10,000, these handsets would not only be trendy but would also reduce the recurring cost to the customer.

Except in North east and Jammu & Kashmir regions, Reliance has licenses for secured wireline and CDMA. Ginie brand would be promoted by Bollywood star, Aamir Khan. Those who cannot afford the handsets are eligible to loan it. Various finance companies are coming out with plans that would make the customers less burdened on the cost of the handsets.

Though the charges for CDMA lines are not yet fixed, the landline would be almost or less than what BSNL offers. Reliance
is likely to bring in schemes to attract customers who are using mobile phones but hardly get out of the city.
